MobileMax: Bullish on Fixed Mobile Convergence
President and Editor-in-Chief
MobileMax (
News -
Alert), founded in 2004, develops a unique patent-pending technology that enables international call providers to dramatically raise usage, increase ARPU, and lower churn — maximizing market potential from the lucrative mobile subscriber segment. Using MobileMax’s technology, mobile subscribers can dial international calls directly from their mobile handset — with no additional keystrokes and automatically enjoy reduced-rate services. Perry Nalevka is Director of Business Development at MobileMax. I recently had the opportunity to ask Nalevka a bit about what MobileMax is up to, what 2007 meant to the company, and what attendees can expect to see at the company’s booth at the upcoming ITEXPO (

Alert) that’s taking place in Miami Beach, January 23–25.
RT: What has been your company’s biggest achievement in 2007?
PN: In 2007 MobileMax had two very big achievements. First we moved from a hardware solution to a software solution. We were production ready supporting over 300 phone models at the beginning of Q2. Our solution allows end users to dial with their cell phones as they are used to through their address book or call log. Our application will then route the call to a specific access number on a PBX

or IVR. Second, we successfully landed three strategic customers and have started a pilot with large PBX (

RT: What can we expect to see from your company in 2008?
PN: MobileMax will be expanding in two areas. First we will continue to increase our support to new phones every quarter. Second we will add additional channels which we will support routing of calls. Currently we can support any multi-stage dialing platform such as IVR

or PBX; by the end of Q2 we will support routing calls through IP over WiFi (

.
RT: How do you see the communications market evolving?
PN: I see mobile phone as the biggest impact on the communications market. We are seeing more and more use of the mobile phone to the point where it is replacing the landline in many places. As the cell phones get smarter we will evolve to a point where everyone has one number that connects to a person whether it be land, mobile or IP

phone.
RT: Are you growing more quickly in the U.S. or abroad?
PN: The U.S. is growing more quickly than any other area. This is due not only to our efforts but the growing attention that FMC solutions are gaining.
RT: Do you see the large service providers like Verizon (News - Alert), AT&T and cable companies as allies or enemies?
PN: I see large service providers as potential customers as our technology can help any service provider obtain a more competitive edge. This is done by offering end users more flexibility and lower cost calling. Service providers are tired of high-cost long-term projects that are obsolete by time they are completed. With MobileMax they get a solution in 30 days at a price that they can sign of on just as quickly.
RT: What do you think the communications market might look like in five years?
PN: In five years most of our communications will flow over IP and we might see phone numbers in the format of IP addresses.
RT: What will attendees see in your booth at ITEXPO this month?
PN: MobileMax will be presenting its Mobile LCR solutions. The MobileMax client revolutionizes multi-stage dialing by transforming multi-stage dialing to one touch dialing. MobileMax’s patent-pending technologies allow the conventional mobile phone to route calls based on predefined criteria. The MobileMax client can seamlessly integrate with any IVR, PBX or fixed line platform and allow users to transparently use the platform from their cell phones without the need to “dial-in”. Just find the number in the address book or call log and click send the rest is done by the MobileMax client.
Features:
- Mobile LCR (Least Cost Routing
)
- MobEx – Mobile Extension
- Extension Dialing
- Call through lower costs
- Call trace – mark a call in system logs as requiring tracing or special attention
- Call waiting – calls coming into extension or mobile phone
- Calling ID – party receiving the call will see the PBX number
- Conference calling
- One voice mailbox
- One phone number
RT: What sorts of companies should come to your exhibit?
PN: Our exhibit will be of special interest to:
- Service providers
- IP/PBX providers
- Large enterprises
RT: Why should customers choose your company’s solutions?
PN: Benefits for Service Providers:
- Increase usage ARPU and reduce churn
- Increase user base and penetration
- Create customer ownership
Benefits for Enterprise IP/PBX:
- Increased productivity and reduce costs
- Add IP-PBX features from mobile phones
- Enforce mobility policies
RT: Please make one surprising prediction for 2008.
PN: Social Networking affiliations will be added to people’s business cards.
